Tony, I'm going to argue with you on this one. I've spent a moderate
amount of time field processing E-6 an have spent years working next to
another astro-photographer who only field processes. My experience was
the opposite of yours. I was surprised at how well I was able to get
consistent results in rough conditions. The only downside that I found
was that the chemicals were very sensitive to age.
Now, one quick note is that at least for me it is more expensive to DIY
than to drop it off at a pro lab.
