Re: [APML]: Color Film and Filters

I only take pics of Nebulae through a DS filter. The picture I took of
the Veil Nebula through my Ultima last year was excellent. The only
problem was that the brightest star in the frame (I think its 52
Cygni?) had a red-purple halo. I did not find this overly objectionable
though. The film was the old Kodak Ektar 1000.

Just to mention that in terms of piggy back shots, the filter brought
out an amazing amount of detail in red nebulae, compared to un-filtered
shots. These were taken at a fairly light-polluted site (max visual mag
about 5.2 overhead). The California Nebula was an indistinct whisp
without the filter, but was nicely defined and full of detail with the
filter. Personally, I recommend it.

What about H-Alpha regions in galaxies such as M33? I would venture to
guess that the filter will bring out some of these knots we see in the
spiral arms. Comments?
