[APML]: Comet in the M.Way
Someone of you, visiting my web pages may have seen a Hale-Bopp photo
by Peter Ledlie.
A spectacular image in colour of the milky Way with the comet close to
it: a pity that when this photo was taken, mid july 1996, no tail was
recorded on the film, so i did a little trick, adding some tail by
cloning from another image taken this month.
My intention was to pick up some expert visitor's attention, expecting
to be requested HOW there could be such a tail at that time.
I made a mistake: I have adviced a couple of amateurs of this list
about this funny image, asking them not to divulge the trick of the
added tail.
As answer I have received from one of them a message of hard rebukes
and warnings that ended with serious doubt about the possibility that
I manipulate the images that are going to published in the magazine
where I have an astrophotography column.
The second one just laughed about (As did also the image's Author!) but
after he received as attachment the "flame" message by his writer, sent
me another message about caution that should be exercised by someone
like me, so different as education and culture, in playing jokes with
someone that I know only by Email.
As these two persons are very prominent in this list, I have been very
sad about these considerations: I never thought that an innocent hobby
like astronomy could bring me into unpleasant situations.
If someone else has seen the photo and has been tricked, I apologize but
I also want you to know that I am a straight person, and I would NEVER
do something like adding unexisting informations to a photo SERIOUSLY,
and for "seriously" I mean an official publication on a magazine, or a
page where all technical datas of a photo are indicated.
The charged image had no info at all except the author.
You can go to the site and see it, now it has all info included the
added tail.
I do not have much luck in this list, it is a pity!
