An aquaintance from Tucson AZ with a similar problem noted that his lack of
consistent aim would cause the light to cycle on and off.  Apparently the
lamp and ballast were not designed for several repetitious "hot starts" and
failed rather early in the process.   I mention this as I am sure you would
want to avoid any similar problems.
