About 10 years ago, the Hamilton Centre of the RASC built a small,
amature observatory.

As luck would have it, a few months after completion, the local county
errected a single streetlight maybe a 100 metres away.

Untill thier compliants were heard,a nd the streetlight properly
sheilded, the guys down there showed me a self - taught technique for
taking out the streetlight.

Thy wuld use a modified photo flash (such as te type used on a 35mm
camera), fit the flash into the 2 inch focuser of their 17 inch
newtonian, use the finder scope to centre directly on the electric eye -
and fire th flash.

They told me it took some practice, but after some time they became
very good at knocking out the streetlight using the telescopeand
flashgun.

I have tried it myself, and it is amazingly effective if you aim is
accurate.
