I have done that using a 10mw pointer laser from Edmund Scientific and
just taping it to a 10X60 spotter scope. Problem is, the recycle time of
the sensor is too short to get in a good photo before it relights. I
would recommend offering the guy some big bucks to install a hidden
cutoff switch you can operate. This worked for me in a similar situation
many years ago. Another way to douse the sensor is to line up your 8in
schmidt on the sensor then remove the eyepiece and hold a small
electronic camera flash unit at the opening and fire it. You will be
amazed at the brightness of the columnated beam, it will activate the
sensor switch.
