Not using an OAG .. but I'll drop in my $.02 since it
seems you are having a problem ...

1) I generally find that if I could guide on the star that the
ST-4 will like it with a max exposure of about 5 sec ... and you
might be amazed at the sort of stars I would choose for a guidestar
( FAINT !! .. use your imagination to see them <G> )

the BIG exception to this is when one chooses a BLUE ( O ,B, A type )
guidestar ... and it gets hard to tell colors when they are faint
... in this case, I find a star that *I* would like, but the ST-4
tells me it wants a 10+ second
exposure ...  this tells me I've picked up a bluer star than the
ST-4 will like ...

If you can always find K stars, your ST-4 will love you !!! <G>
