Alan, the Flame and Horsehead is a great shot! I've only shot a bit of E200 but my experience was
that bright stars bloom a lot. If there was thin haze in the air that would not help your cause
either. It still looks super though.
I think Rob Gendler has shown us that open clusters are enhanced by diffraction spikes. You may
want to investigate Wolfgang Promper's technique of putting sticks across his sct.
