I think that we may be able to reach objects at least
at the same magnitude as the sky. Becouse of the poor
SNR, i guess that dimmer objects are beyond our
capabilities. With CCD, by the other hand, we can
substract the sky and detect objects more than a
magnitude fainter. This is donde very commonly in
professional astronomy to detect low surface
brightness galaxies.
