[APML] The Perfect Storm - Aurora
And I thought John Mirtle was the only one to see this? <g> Although
activity has subsided around here (its 8:30pm EST), I witnessed the most
awesome auroral display I've ever seen. Hundreds of pillars pulsating up
past the zenith, they were so bright the ground was illuminated a
pinkish/red. And then to top it off, a corona at the zenith formed!! At
this point the sky was totally covered with aurora. Way past Mars to the
south. In the 18 years I've been into astronomy, I've never seen a display
so beautiful! And the night is just beginning.......:-)
At least for us New England astronomers, this should be called "The Perfect
Storm".. and what perfect timing..... October 30, 2003 vs. October 30, 1991.
