Speaking on the basis of my PhD in nuclear physics, I can assure you I
missed at least a few cosmic rays :-)
But yeah, it's 2.5 years old. I have some newer stuff that is only 2
years old. It's all been in the freezer for that whole time.
I guess once I can clear some space out in my garage, I can try to get
my own hypering kit. I'm mostly trying to see if I can get anything
from my urban setup here in Brooklyn, and TP + the Wratten 92 seemed
the best bet. Skies are about mag 4.5 on the *really* good nights,
but typically about mag 4. And that means sticking near the zenith,
say 45° and higher; certain directions are just out (don't look toward
Manhattan!).
I'll try to do a small piece at several different development times to
see what I can get. Since 12 minutes was obviously a bit much, I'll
back down to 10, as John Mirtle suggested, and then back to 8 if need
be. If that doesn't do the trick, I might be back here asking for
someone to hyper some film for me; or maybe I'll try the new Lumicon
to see if a new roll works better.
It should be noted that even when the file was a mere 1-1/2 years old,
I got the same effect; that was 7 min in D-19. And when it was a mere
couple of months old I got the same effect on a different roll from
the same batch, again 7 min in D-19, but I may have mishandled that
roll, so it's hard to be sure.
Now I need the clouds to go away....
Thanks,
roland
