As for input, I agree with Vincent, but as for what you actually scan it
as, my best work has been done by scanning the image "raw." Jerry may
disagree and may also have more up to date recommendations on how to use
the SS4000 (I sold mine a couple of years ago in favor of the SS120),
but at least for slides, I've always had better luck scanning "raw."
It's important to note that this is not the same thing as telling the
software that you have a raw negative or slide to scan - definitely tell
it you have a color slide or negative.

To me, the only downside of scanning at 4000 dpi is if you don't want
the larger file size. It's true that some films won't give you anything
more to work with at that resolution, but I don't think they hurt you
either. Again, Jerry has much more experience with this and may well
correct me on this point.
