I've never seen the "timeout" thing, but I did have a difficult time
getting the computer and scanner to recognise each other. Turned out to
be a case where the computer needed to be directed to look for the
correct driver(s). I can't tell you how to do that because I had a
computer literate friend come over and untangle my mess.
