Re: [APML] 'Puter Questions

More Memory would certainly help Photoshop run smoother. Once your done opening one instance of Photoshop your on swap file for sure. I have tons of memory...I'll need some more info....feel free to contact me off list.

As for an upgrade. I'd do a "Core Upgrade". Mainboard, Ram, and CPU. Maybe Video Card...depends on what you have now. Hard disk upgrade only if your out of room....they get cheaper and bigger by the month!

You can pick up some great deals. Check this out...

AMD Athlon XP 1500+/266 FSB Processor CPU - 1.33GHz $56
Abit KR7A-133 VIA KT266A $75
256 MB of DDR 266...about $70 bucks.
And a $15 CPU cooler.

So for under $250 your up to 1.3 Gig with 256 Mb of DDR! Quite an upgrade for very little dough...

Good luck,

BTW...
Prices are via NewEgg.com....I'm fond of them. :)

Gents.
I'm still limping along on a Pentium II, 64 RAM. PS v.6 and other large programs, has it behaving like a drunken snail, and seems a bit unstable with fairly frequent lock-ups and error messages. (# of stack pages, fatal exception...)

Would an additional memory card help this, or is it more a result of the processing chip speed? Time for a new one?!

Also along these lines, are there problems, with any stage of post processing, including smoothing, on a compressed TIFF file since a 22 MB, 35mm full-frame takes an unpractical eternity here?

Thanks everyone!
