Geoff - I'm pretty sure the brownish glow on the horizon is a combination of
airborne dust, water vapor and some air pollution.  Even though the sky that
night was a LVM of 6.5, there was a faint brown haze visible along the
horizon before sunset.  Probably air pollution from the major cities along
the east coast.  Being at 100ft above sea level doesn't help either.....
:-')

The curvature of the earth would be to great and the distance too far for it
to be LP from Europe.
