[APML] rescanned and processed IC1396
Hello all,
I am giving the old Nikon 8000 a workout. I rescanned at 14bit and utilized
the GEM software. I am very impressed with the GEM software. At least on
these E200 push processed slides that were very thin, the GEM did a great
job of reducing the grain and preserving resolution. I used a setting of 1
out of 4. The GEM is part of the Nikon software package and is packaged
with other scanning software. After much experience with SGBNR, BGSmooth,
and selective gaussian blurring on my own, I am pretty confident that the
GEM worked much better than any of these others would have. I am thinking
of rescanning some old PPF stuff to see what GEM can do with it. I also
went with a natural look and worked with what I had and did not force the
processing. I still have a lot to learn with the software. I am trying to
find the right balance between utilizing the Nikon software and relying on
Photoshop. Oh yeh, I used Photoshop with 16 bit(?) mode<g> for curves. I
think it does make a difference<g>
