Go to http://www.spaceweather.com and sign up for auroral alerts. Also
http://www.ips.gov.au for geomagnetic storm warnings. Not all
geomagnetic storms result in aurora's but when the Boulder or planetary
K index starts heading up above 6 I usually take a peak outside every 20
minutes or so.
