Re: [APML] Hypered film- no Lumicon
Alan and all,
I don't have a direct answer to a source for mail order hypered film. I
think your best bet is to make friends with someone nearby who has the
equipment and can hyper film for you.
I hyper film for my friends in the San Diego area quite often. In our area,
we have the San Diego Astronomy Association, with around 385 members (last
issue) and many of them are astrophotographers, several with published
photos. Out of that group, I know of 5 hypering kits (including mine), and
I don't know 95% of the group.
Really, there are only two currently available films that are regularly used
for astrophotography and require hypering. Those are Tech Pan 2415 and
RG200. If you want to shoot B&W or TriColor, then you have to hyper (and
probably already have the equipment). For Color, You have some great
alternative films that don't require hypering: (the soon to be changed)
Supra400, LE400 (not easily found), and slide films like Kodak E200 and Fuji
Provia400. The slide films can be push processed either +1 or +2 with a bit
of grain increase, but they work. All four of these color films will work
for very long exposures, some better than others, out to 4-1/2 hours or
more.
For a source of hyper forming gas, I'm getting a high pressure bottle of it
with a regulator to refill my lumicon bottles. One high pressure bottle
should be a lifetime supply at about the cost of 4 or 5 lumicon refills.
