[APML] DWB111 Comparison
List,
With Mike cook's permission to use his image and hopefully Matt
not minding using his javascript, I put together an unusual
comparison of Mike's DWB111 CCD H-a image and an RC TP white
light image I did sometime back.
ftp://ftp.aa6g.org/dwb111.html
This may seem to be a very apples and oranges comparison but
it intended to be a comparison of what is possible, not an
exact comparison between CCD and film. Mike's 8.5 hours worth of
exposures are probably equivalent to about 2 days of exposures
on TP, the latter being completely out of the question even
if the former seems extreme.
Besides the advantage of very low noise there seems to be another
issue I have not seen addressed: Film looses resolving power at
low contrast levels. It would appear that CCDs don't. The long
focal length of my scope compared to Mike's doesn't make up for
this. Maybe 16 three hours would come close but that's impractical.
