[APML] New image: Aurora from 10-21-2001
The forecast for this past Sunday was very "iffy." My observing partner and
I decided to make a go of it anyway. Forecast calling for increasing clouds
after midnight. I wanted to give the new STV Efinder a go at autoguiding,
so we headed out. Man, I am glad we did. I have been fortunate enough to
have seen aurora twice already this season, but nothing like this. No
mistaking the reds and greens with pillars of bright light reaching high
into the sky. These images hopefully capture the beauty of the event. I
only wish I had a wider lens. My 35mm was not nearly wide enough to capture
the full extent. Here they are. I have done very little processing.
