Although you call it "junk", don't you think that many of the people who
buy a Meade product and get hooked in the hobby, end up buying A-P and
others eventually.   I don't think that very many people would wait two or
more years for their first telescope and mount, waiting to see if they like
telescopic astronomy.
Roland, I have been on your list for both a telescope and a mount for
nearly three years now.  If I did not have my LX200 during this time, I
would have been S.O.L

I would not call the LX200 stuff junk. I think Tony was referring to the small 60mm GoTo stuff that's appearing in the retail outlets. My reference was to the possibility that these would be cloned by the millions in China and sent over here by the boatload.

As far as junk goes, we just recently bought a wide slot toaster made in China with a well known US brand stamped on it. One side won't clamp, so is totally useless, the other side won't pop the toast up at the end because the spring is too weak when the bread is a bit heavier than a normal loaf of white. My wife and I have decided to stop buying this kind of junk, even though the price was right. The alternative is a toaster made in Germany at 5 times the price, but I know it will work and I don't have to wrestle with it to get my toast out in the morning.
