You have nailed the problem. Lawyers don't make laws; lawyers don't render
ridiculous jury verdicts; lawyers don't force folks to refuse to honor their
contracts; lawyers don't initiate lawsuits (they get hired to do so by
clients); lawyers are not responsible for overreaching governments; etc,
etc. Fortunately, I am a tax lawyer devoted to keeping the Internal Revenue
Service from overreaching. I have yet to have anyone complain that I am too
tough on the IRS.:-)  I do understand where Roland is coming from but his
problem is not with lawyers, it is with human nature. There are other
alternatives, however--both Iraq and Afghanistan have very weak legal
systems and lawyers in those countries are totally ineffective.
