Matt, another ditto here.  Great idea.

Question;
     Have you experimented with making your overlay map a transparent layer in
Photoshop laid on top of the original image then saving it for your Java
"img_off.src"?  You'd preserve your original image somewhat when displaying the map
information.  (: just what you need, more work :)  ...joe  :)

BTW: your idea works well in documentation at work.  Thkx for the idea.
