RE: [APML] Last Gasp for SprintScan 4000
I don't know if this will help you much, but the Polaroid SS 4000 is
manufactured by Microtek. You might very will still be able to get service
through Microtek. I don't know for sure. I just purchased a used model,
and I hope service will still exist if I ever have a problem...

Subject: [APML] Last Gasp for SprintScan 4000
Apparently, Polaroid is expected to declare bankruptcy today.
I figure now is the time to get a SS4000, since they can be had for
$700 now. It is unlikely the bankruptcy court will allow them to pay
the $200 rebate, (but I COULD get lucky and get it for $500.)
It appears that the SS4000 still rates highest on this list for
astro use and seems to have the least problems/issues.
What do you all believe are the most debilitating issues related to getting
a soon to be orphaned scanner product? Is the ver 5.0 software
good? There will probably be no warrantee fulfillment. Have many of you
owners had problems needing warrantee service? Parts??
The Super Coolscan 4000 ED is still street priced at $1,500 +, and a
bigger jump than I can afford. Please shower me with your opinions, both
good and bad.
