Re: [APML] Film Processing Methods

Hi Bert:
For film: I have processed a couple of rolls of TechPan myself but have
found my local processing specialty shop (which uses automatic equipment) to
be very satisfactory for all my color film (which is more than 95% of my
imaging). They are happy to do push and pull processing for a trivial
additional charge. I tried a local professional darkroom for processing and
found them to be no better in quality and 3 times more expensive than the
processing done at the automated shop. (I realize I'm probably lucky to have
such a good shop available nearby.)

For prints: I usually have a single glossy 4x6 print made from each color
negative for gross evaluation and keeping in the file. I scan everything I
like the looks of (negs and slides) and make all my final prints with a
venerable Epson Stylus Photo EX (up to 11 x 18 inches). I will be replacing
it before too long with one of the newer Epsons, but it is still doing a
good job. I have not had a professional print made from film since I got the
Epson (about 3 years ago). The major advantage of printing myself is the
ability to modify in PhotoShop and immediately print the result for
evaluation. (I also like to have prints around and it would bankrupt me to
have 8x10 pro prints made at the rate I make them myself.)

Hope this helps...

Bert
