RE: [APML] Baby steps
I have a question on dewing. What is the best setup for fighting dew
on a refractor and where is the best placement for the heaters. Does the
heat effect imaging?
Brian.
Hello Brian:
Good news on the polar scope being so accurate requiring no drift
adjustment. Hope it's always that easy. You must have picked up a great,
well cared for ST4 <g>.
I think the Kendrick system is very good for prevention of dew, start
heating early on low to medium to stay ahead because it's a much longer
process once you're dewed over. Initially it's not inexpensive to set up
but well worth the expense and should be a one time charge. Install the
primary dew band near generally just at where the dew shield meets the tube.
You weren't clear about what else you plan to protect, but feel free to
contact me off line if you wish to discuss this further. Pursuant to battery
power, go to the Kendrick web site and they provide the draw for the various
dew bands. Check you Losmandy manual for the draw on the mount, I don't
remember it as being much at all. With this information you can determine
the amp hours you can run, but allow a margin in cold weather. Two
batteries should take you through a session easily.
Looking forward to viewing your first astro shots.
Kirk
