RE: [APML] Mounting negatives
Very cool, Alan. After the thread on slide mounts, I ended up buying a big batch of do-it-yourself slides (at a cost of 500 for $25) and have mounted a bunch of negatives in these.
Looking forward to seeing the M33 comparison.

Subject: [APML] Mounting negatives
Hey all,
Because of some discussion here, I took my most recent batch of
negatives down to the only place in the Rogue Valley that will mount
them in slide mounts. To refresh your memory, if you examine any shot
I've posted you'll see that there is a problem with center-to-corner
focus. The exception to that are the shots that are slide mounted.
Apparently, the film strip sags a bit in the negative carrier during
scanning.
After giving the guy the uncut strip of negatives and explaining what
I wanted, he went in back for a couple minutes and came back with: the
slide-mounted-negatives! I was stunned it took so little time and cost
only 10 cents a frame. From now on I will have my developer print them
and give me the uncut negatives, and once every month or two I'll run a
batch of them down to have them mounted as slides. I left them a 12
exposure roll of Fuji Super HQ200 to develop, print and them slide
mount. I was able to get (1) 2 hour shot of M33 so that will give me a
real good comparison between the HQ200, and Supra, on which I have many
2 hour shots of M33.
Now, if only there are no problems scanning them as negatives, even
though they're in slide mounts. 8-)
Just passing this on in case anyone else may find my experience
useful.
Alan
