I know. I've got a bunch (at least 100) in there now at about 50MB per
scan and they take up close to 15% of the storage.

A SS4000, I thought I'd save some confusion so it put it in the
'subject' line.

I guess the pre-scan will tell me what I need to know.

Well Jerry, it's my understanding that if you don't scan raw then you
are basically doing some image correction at the scan. I thougth that
was to be avoided if you don't know what you're doing. I have always
scanned raw thinking it safer that way. This leads me to believe that I
have missed something here. Raw scans are what most folks seem to
recommend, although there has always been 'some' disagreement about
that. Don't worry about offending me, I know my computer and software
knowledge is very limited, mostly by fear, and lack of practice. 8-)

I reckon if I can continue working on this stuff on a regular basis I
may get 1/2 way decent at it. To this point, I have only had the desire
to do it about every 15 months. By the time I do it again, I have
forgotten the measly bits I was able to learn. So, then I get to start
over.

If I was to scan images other than in 'raw' mode, what would you
recommend?

Thanks for your patience,
Alan
