[APML] Film Scanners

Good morning everyone!

I'm thinking about getting a new film scanner soon. I was always somewhat
unhappy with my SprintScan 35 when scanning dense slides, and since I have a
new PC that doesn't have a slot for the old SCSI card, I want to get a
modern USB scanner.

Right now, I want it mainly for daylight photos, but I will want to scan
astrophotos (slides!) with it, too. So, what's "in"? I don't want to spend
more than about $300, preferably less, but I know that could mean poorer
quality.

I saw a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III at a friend's place this weekend, and
it did a good job on daylight photos, but I don't know how it works on dark
slides. Besides, there's a Dimage IV now. What are your experiences with
current film scanner models? I only need a 35mm scanner, no medium format
yet.
