RE: [APML] OT: Experiments with Lunar/Planetary Webcam image stacking
Gary, Serge, Ray,
Thanks for your feedback. I have put up a quick comparison of results
obtained with this technique, Registax, and K3CCD:
http://www.astrocruise.com/misc/l_processing.htm
I would hesitate from saying that the Registax and K3CCD results are the
very best that could be obtained, however I tried pretty hard over a period
of 2 months, after studying quite a few articles. I think that the
Registax one is pretty close, but the K3CCD result could probably be
further optimised - notice there was also a mistake in selecting the frame
area for processing - this would have been corrected if I had decided to
publish it. I don't have a similar comparison for Clavius - I processed
that later and used only the new technique.
Ray, thanks for the link. I think that both of these programs are
excellent, especially since they free. (AVIedit is not free). I think the
only real question is the one I put earlier: whether mathematics alone
(FFT) is enough to select the best frames, bearing in mind that the images
suffer from a combination of blurring and non-linear scaling
distortions? The rest of what I said was just a description of the technique.
Regards
