RE: Re: [APML]OT-Drift Alignment

Serge,

The title is "Polar axis alignment requirements for astronomical
photography"
by R. N. Hook, published 2/1989 in the Journal of the British Astronomical
Association, Vol 99, no. 1, pg 19-22.

Here's the abstract:

Some simple expressions are derived which show how precisely an equatorial
mounting used for long exposure photography needs to be aligned. Both the
simple case, where no guiding is applied, and the effect of field rotation
when guiding are considered

I just retrieved the article from the Harvard ADS system:
http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abstract_service.html
After the system finds the article, move down to the bottom of the page and
click on "More Article Retrieval Options", then go to the bottom of that
page and click on "Regrieve Screen Display of article". Then you can see it
page by page and print them. There are other retrieval options but I've
never gotten them to work for me.

In the article, he derives the required alignment accuracy for 30 micron
trails which is far more than I would accept. However, it is easy to
generalize his equations to get the results I gave earlier.

Steve...
