Re: [APML] M31 With Aurora (or is it light struck film)
Thom,
Definitely not aurora. Any chance that your friend was using an Olympus
OM-2? As for your Heart and Soul Nebulas, you may now understand why those
of us who live near "aurora central" curse the darn thing! I have literally
hundreds of shots ruined by this natural light pollution.

This is from one of my observing partners. He took it on Kodak HD film
the night we had a good Aurora he in South Carolina. He says he didn't
see anything visually but with a 60 minute exposure it wouldn't take
much. Or maybe his film was light struck somehow. Anyway, you be the
judge.

BTW, another one of my partners watched the 10/30 display until he could
detect no more activity. He spent the rest of the night imaging the
Heart and Soul Nebulas and when he got the slides back they were totally
washed out with residual Aurora undetectable to the naked eye so I guess
anything is possible.
