Hi Robert

It means that you saw it when the K-P index was above 7 as well as
factors like the solar wind being high and the interplanetary magnetic
field was very south pointing. The result was the auroral oval being
south of your location.
Have a look at http://www.orion-drustvo.si/MBKTeam/auroramon.html and
correlate the time you saw the aurora with the data on the graphs, you
will find most of the numbers were very high at that time.
Here in Montreal the clouds cleared as it dimmed to a faint auroral
glow.
Both cameras were loaded and on tripods waiting for the skies to clear.
