Fine work Arne, both Geir and yourself!
I particularly like the high/low contrast selection idea on the film image. That's neat!
On the 10D image, to my eye there appears to be an overemphasis on faint nebulosity. Looking at the black point of the histogram, the green is chopped off just a bit, and the blue is chopped off _very_ aggressively. The red channel is fine, but it's blackpoint along with that of the green and blue blackpoints are causing what is a strong artificial red cast to the background that looks like faint nebulosity. For instance, even very deep cooled CCD exposures don't show much faint red nebulosity in the "Gulf" region.
