[APML] [OT] Polar alignment on the equator
Hi list,
a friend of mine posed a question which I is a little off-topic here, but I
thought somebody could solve this small puzzle.
Here it goes: if you take your telescope to some place lying just _right_
on the equator (0° latitude), where would you point your mount to polar
align it, north or south?
I would say it really doesn't matter, because then you have both celestial
poles exactly 180° apart on the local horizon (height: 0°). If you travel
north or south even a very short distance, then you'll have to align toward
the north or south pole respectively, even if either pole is a dab above
the horizon.
Am I right, or wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Emmanuele Sordini
