Hi Steve,
My thinking is since CNet dropped the download link directly to Evrsoft then
the Trojan was planted at Evrsoft into the original bundle. As I downloaded
the program and looked at their web page, I was thinking "this sounds too
good to be true for a 'free' program". I see that thinking was correct.
There is no free lunch! The Evrsoft program is, in my mind, a come-on to
get their trojan on your system. Thank goodness Norton's caught it, but now
I don't trust anything from Evrsoft.
Lord knows I am having enough problems with Norton's. I don't need any
viruses or worms bouncing off it. I have hell getting Norton's 2000 to
update the definition files and trying to instal Norton 2003 completely
locks up my computer in spite of loading from a clean boot. So I got rid of
the First Page program entirely. Who knows what else may be lurking in it?
I just hope it didn't instal something else into Windows that has not been
detected yet.
(Call me paranoid, but) I still say BEWARE of this program.
