Re: [APML] Suitable planetary film
100 speed film or unhypered Tech Pan is "fine" for
lunar (in both meanings of the word) but not so
great for planetary unless you have a really large
scope (collecting a lot of light, thus requiring
shorter exposures). The bugaboo of planetary (and to
a somewhat lesser extent) lunar photograhy has
always been air turbulence (seeing). It is for this
reason that I said "CCD." I was being only partly
facetious. Because CCD exposures can be so short when
shooting most of the planets, even with relatively
small scopes, you can "freeze" the turbulence.
Moreover, you can take hundreds of images and select
for stacking only those that are sharpest. Some good
planetary images have been taken with film, but CCD
has easily eclipsed it (pun not intended) for that
application. This isn't like wide-field deep-sky for
which film is still very well suited because of its
large imaging area. Using film to shoot the planets
(apart from the moon) is like using a pair of pliers
to hammer a nail. It CAN be done but a hammer achieves
a better result (even a cheap, uncooled one :-).

Teo if you can develop it yourself I would try Tech
Pan for Lunar. You would be able to see fine detail
because of the high resolution of the film...
