[APML] 400 Speed Film With Decent Red Response?

Hi All,

I've been lurking on this list for just over a month now, and have really
been impressed with the quality of images that are displayed here. I've
been doing some CCD imaging with a modified Vesta webcam for just over a
year, and since moving to New Mexico, am really interested in film
astrophotography. I've done some piggyback widefield stuff, and one serious
attempt at prime focus. This was a 40 minute hand-guided exposure of the
North American nebula with the "New Improved" Kodak Royal Gold. To say I
was disappointed with the blue image was an understatment.

I've had good luck with Elite Chrome 200, and everyone seems to like Provia
400f for galaxies and blue nebula, and both of those are readily available.
But want I would like to find is a 400 speed film (slide or print) with good
reds, that's still available, and doesn't require hypering.

After reading some good comments about Supra 400, and also hearing that it
may soon be discontinued, I thought that maybe I should consider buying in
quantity and storing for the future. I'm so new to this that I only have
"FOOD" in my fridge and freezer ;-0

I've also decided to avoid the "Grey" films since I don't want to take a
chance after putting hours into an exposure, and Adorama has the "USA" and
"MFR in USA" films available. But since then I've seen conflicting reports
on the suitability of Supra 400.

Shows Supra 400 as Good+ unhypered

But,

http://www.darkskyimages.com/films.htm

Says to avoid Supra 400!!

So, should I buy 20+ rolls of this stuff, or is there something better out
there? Also, is the manufactured in the US for foreign distribution any
riskier than USA film?

Thanks,

Steve Barkes
