Re: [APML] Field Rotation on a LX-200 with wedge?

Chris, your "fiend" is wrong. A wedge-mounted LX200 with good polar alignment should not have any field rotation problems. Perhaps your friend was thinking of the LX200 mounted alt-az, in which case yes, field rotation will show up very quickly (within a few minutes).

That is the equipment that I use (wedge-mounted 10" LX200). I have made exposures of several hours with no field rotation.

The LX-200 has other problems that make astrophotography a challenge. The main problem I run into is the declination drive has too much gear backlash and sometimes even retrograde motion. This can make guiding very challenging.

Although I've never used a G11, I understand it has much better tracking that the LX-200 mount.

Subject: [APML] Field Rotation on a LX-200 with wedge?

Hello all I am new to this and would like some help on this problem:

I have a 10"LX-200 ( Was owned by Dr. Clay Sherrod is said to track over 6 hours) but my fiend said that a wedge mounted Lx-200 will have a "Field Rotation problem" and to get a G11 or a German EQ, that would be the only way to do exposures over 5 minuets..

My question will the wedge mounted LX-200 with good a polar alignment have Field Rotation problems??

I thank everybody's comments...

Thanks
Christopher
