Hi Alan,
There are a couple of things you can do to speed up processing in photoshop
when using huge files.
1) Add more RAM. 256 or 512 Megs of RAM is not out of line when working
with big files.
2) If you have two hard drives in your sustem, make sure your photoshop
scratch disk is on a different drive than the main system drive.

I'm gonna be more than willing to do that. I cannot
believe how much time I've spent at the scanner just
to get a few negatives scanned. I had a Horsehead shot
that I just pulled up in PS, it was 113mb. It took
forever to make even a tiny adjustment to it. I have
NO idea how it got so big.
