[APML] Photoshop questions

Hi all,

Last spring, I asked you guys all sorts of questions
about processing and scanning. I was not ready for the
answers, but I am now. My promise to myself is: This
winter, I'm learning this stuff that has always scared
me. Please be patient.

Instead of asking too many questions all at once, I
figure a better way is to ask more specific ones as I
go, and as I need answers. Here's two.

I noticed something called 'channel mixer' under
Image. I have not heard this mentioned here, what is
it? And should I leave it alone?

When I'm working in most areas, there are options to
work on the 'Master' or red, green, blue
(individually). What is the standard practice? Just
the master; the master, then red, green and blue; or
just the RGB?
