RE: [APML] Varimagnifier for Om-1
Speaking of the Varimagnifinder (which I think is the
correct spelling), does anyone know of anything
similar in the way of a clip-on right angle viewer for
SLRs such as the OM-1 that does NOT magnify the image?
I'm looking for something that will make near-zenith
shots with my barn-door mount easier to compose (the
mount itself gets in the way!).

I tried a Varimagnifier on an OM-1 for a few months
and was never happy with it. It has a restricted
aperture and makes star images very dim. It did not
help me focus. As you may know, if an image is even
slightly out of focus, the detrimental effect is
large. I would recommend some other kind of loupe for
your viewfinder. Or better yet, a knife edge focuser
is IMO the supremely accurate method for focusing film
