The only problem I see with this explanation is the sharpness of the
points. Every time I buggered up loading a reel it was all smooth curves
and splotches. Not knowing how the emulsion layers are laid down during
manufacturing, my guess would be that the red layer did not bond
properly to the substrate and during the setting process in between the
red and the next layer part of the red emulsion was stripped off.
Visually it reminds me of stripping wallpaper when it hasn't been soaked
enough, maybe there is a jet of nitrogen used to evapourate the carrier.
But this is pure uneducated guessing as I don't know the process used to
build the emulsion layers.
