Re: [APML] call for suggestion

Although I only have a couple yrs exp under
my belt, I think I can manage this one...

You can start out with an SLR/lens on
a tripod. You won't be able to expose long (no tracking),
but you'd be surprised how much your can record
with a 28/50mm lens at f/2.8 and faster. If you want
to get into long exposure work, You'll need a telescope
and a rigid equatorial mount.

There are definitely a lot of options when it comes to choosing a scope.
Two very important factors are focuser size and focuser rigidity.
Again...at this FL your going to need a good mount. Which usually means
whatever mount is supplied with your scope, will be barely adequate for visual
work and inadequate for PF photography.

Both have different uses. You'll need an SLR
for deep sky work. And the DC would be handy
for the short exposure shots of the planets and moon.

I highly recommend Michael Covington's Astrophotography for the amateur.
I suggest reading it before buying anything!

Good luck!
