Well I just got up from a long nap after returning
from the Mid Atlantic Star Party. I arrived Friday afternoon to a
completely overcast sky. It cleared up pretty good by around 7 and was
clear all night. Unfortunately we were clouded in by 9:30 Saturday
night. I did get the opportunity to take some pix and hopefully can
share those when they're ready. The sky was as dark as I can ever remember
seeing. I haven't seen the Milky Way like that since I was about
12.

Now for the really big news. I received a 1st
place ribbon for my M42 shot in the Deep Sky category and 1st place for my
ISS/SS transit shot in the Non-Telescopic category! Totally unexpected
because as you know I'm really new at this! Jeff Ball won some ribbons as
well, but the Japanese fellow who was announcing the winners had a pretty strong
accent and I had a hard time understanding everything he said. Jeff, chime
in and share your success!

Now its really nice to be recognized for your work
and I am tickled, but there's nothing like watching a person's face light up
when you show them an astronomical pic. That to me is the real reward and
makes all those frustrating nights all worthwhile.
