[APML] Fixing the color

Jerry, Chuck, et al.

OK, I've carefully scoured APML for the past 2 years. Almost all of my
astrophotos have been on E200 slide film, which for the most part, looks
pretty good without any processing, and looks even better with processing.

For the Leonids, I decided to go with 800 Kodak Supra negative film. The
shots were done using a Nikon ED AF-S 80-200mm F2.8 lens, set at F2.8 and 80
mm, for 10 min. These were taken at a dark site (both summer and winter
Mway clearly visible throughout the night.) It was quite clear and cold (37
deg, 59% RH).

I have had a hard time adjusting these pictures. First, there is a large
amount of vignetting. But even ignoring that, I can't adjust for correct
color balance. Below is a link to a typical image. It has Orion's belt in
the lower right hand corner, and the Rosette nebula in the center left.

The negative looks about medium density in the dark sky region. There is
verry little red. I suspect that the scan is somewhat at fault, as the
histogram of the red channel is cut off.

What do you think? Is this a bad exposure, scan, film, or it is fixable via
processing?
