Hi Adam,
I noticed you mentioned poor guiding on your m42 attempt.
This is not necessarily the case.  The trailed stars near
the edges are caused by a poor polar alignment.  This causes
field rotation.  Spend the extra 45 mins and perform a drift
alignment.  It is well worth the trouble.
