[APML] Begining Image processing help, tutorials?

Hey all,

After avoiding the image processing issue all this
time, at my fiancee's urging I am finally giving in
and have decided to take the plunge. So, Friday we get
a new computer. My brother has a couple of programs;
photshop, paint shop pro that we're going to load up.

But what we really need is a little (lots) of
non-technical help on manipulating and combining
images. Can any of you make suggestions on where to
look for online guidance for the computer challenged?

Also, what about a scanner. I sort of remember a
thread awhile back talking about greatly reduced
prices on a Polaroid. Was it the Sprintscan, and is it
still available.
