   This is my second favourite Leonid observation.  My
first is:  "I stayed up until midnight, but I did not see any
Leonids, so I went to bed."
   Of course you have not seen any Leonids.  We do not
face in the right direction until after midnight for there to be any
Leonids in the sky at all.  I hope you kept on until dawn...

P.S.  For those who are intersted, I usually toast
the end of a good
observing run with a nip of Scotch, but instead, I have a rye from
Alberta
called Tangle Ridge.  Very nice.  Those who enjoy fine sour
mash whisky
might appreciate this too.

P.P.S.  My condolences to all the deep sky photographers on the
list.  I
know, meteors are almost as bad as aurora.  Darn things streak up
all those
pictures.  Finally we get a clear new Moon and
this...
