RE: [APML] Astrograph?????

>From one Jim to another..!!

Basically, an astrograph is a telescope or lens used for obtaining photos
of star fields, mainly for astrometry. These units use medium to large
format film emulsions or plates.

I am currently having built, a post WWII English WRAY 9.5" clear aperture
F4 lens that used 9" x 9" roll film. The lens assembly and there is 5
elements in four groups, have been re-polished and Anti Reflection
coated. The original barrel that the lens came in, is also being revamped,
and this will now have a lockable helical focus with a rotating 4x5" back.
I will be using Jack Schmidling's vacuum backs and focuser.

The entire weight of this beast comes in at 140 lbs. It will be mounted
alongside a 12.5" F15 classical Cassegrain scope that is dedicated for CCD
work, and both instruments will be mounted on a new Eq. mount with a
11.5" Byers drive. RA shaft top bearing is 8" and Dec is 4" dia. I will
post an image of this camera when its all done, ETA around early New Year.
My other 6" F6 camera which takes 4x5" film, is used in conjunction with the
JSO 160 Schmidt camera.

These, and many other optical, photo and CCD equipment, the Stuart Range
Observatory (SRO) will play an important part at the newly established
Nanango TIE/QUT Observatory. See www.eese.bee.qut.edu.au click on

Subject: [APML] Astrograph?????

Hi Folks,
I'm interested in the concept of an astrograph and would like to call upon
the group's expertise. Does anyone know of websites where explanations
and/or illustrations of what qualifies a scope to be an astrograph as well
as design techniques might be available. Thanx for any information on this.
Regards,
Jim Gamble
